The Wycroft Peacock
Wycroft's pinot noir label features its vineyard peacock Winston, who is a fitting emblem for our brand, and recalls the age-old dictum that "the flavours of fine pinot noir open out on the palate like a peacock's tail"

WYCROFT PINOT NOIR

There are two labels, the premium Wycroft, and a companion label, Wycroft Forbury introduced when we declassified the 2008 vintage.

But the accolades that have consistently been won by the Wycroft have also been showered on Wycroft Forbury. It featured on the wine list and degustation menu of Auckland’s most awarded restaurant, The French Café, and other such prestigious establishments, and was also selected to be served at The Mayor’s Lunch for delegates to the international Pinot Noir 2010 conference in Wellington in February.

It was the second accolade for the vineyard from these prestigious conferences, with our reserve Wycroft 2005 being chosen for the delegate’s Long Lunch at The White House in Wellington during the 2007 event.

Wycroft’s 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages were voted one of New Zealand’s 10 best pinot noirs by 1,000 tasters, in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch conducted by the Fine Wine Delivery Co. The 2008 vintage was also the Martinborough/Wairarapa Regional Champion.

RECOGNISED EARLY

From the first vintage Wycroft began attracting critical acclaim, with the leading international critic Jancis Robinson on a visit to NZ scoring the 2003 vintage fifth equal, 17/20 and “alluring for Burgundy lovers.”

As the vines matured further recognition came: the 2006 vintage was marked 92/100 by Neal Martin of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and described as “well crafted – excellent.”

Jancis followed up with another 17/20 for the 2006 vintage, seeing it as “very light, racy, sinewy& appetising…Well done. Graceful.”

Locally Bob Campbell MW gave the vintage 91/100 and included it is his Top 100 new releases in Australian Gourmet Traveller.

In the UK Decanter Magazine bestowed a 5 Star Decanter Award on the ‘06 vintage, and put it in the “top seven NZ pinots” of the 154 their expert panel reviewed.
